On Sunday night, March 15, we made the very difficult decision to suspend routine chiropactic care for two weeks at our facility while we are in the midst the COVID-19 outbreak. We love chiropractic! We believe (strongly) that it provides essential immune system support. We believe even more strongly that in these unprecedented times, being socially responsible and limiting contact for a short period is simply the right thing to do! What is "essential"?This, my dear friends and patients is the million dollar question! We see chiropractors everywhere stating that chiropractic is essential. And, boy, do we believe them! We have always operated McCann Family Chiropractic as a wellness clinic. Of course we see many people everyday for chronic pain, headaches, and the like. But most of our patients are scheduled out weeks, if not months in advance. They see regular chiropractic as part of their lifestyle. It helps them be their best, function well, feel great. The very first item under our drop-down menu for chiropractic is "Wellness". (Clearly, that wasn't a choice due to it's place in the alphabet!) It is listed first because it is the core of what we do! We believe chiropractic is an essential part of wellness!
If you are a current patient who has been coming in regularly... your body is reaping these health benefits! Your nervous system is functioning well to send vital communication to all parts of YOU and keep you healthy should illness strike. But, "essential" yesterday might be different from "essential" today... We look around the globe and hear horror stories of doctors trying to decide who gets a ventilator and a fighting chance to beat COVID-19 and who does not. Over the weekend, a middle aged Doctor at Providence Health Clinic in our parking lot tested positive. We are aware that many other staff members in that clinic are symptomatic. We know of an ER doctor at Evergreen Hospital, in his 40s, who is in the ICU in critical condition. We know that our testing supplies in the nation are in limited supply as well as personal protective gear. At MFC, our supply of hand sanitizer is less than ideal and we simply can't operate at full capacity until we replenish. We want to give health care providers, hospital workers, and those on the front lines the absolute most important support we can give them. They are bravely facing this new illness everyday, putting their own health on the line. Giving them the best support possible means doing everything we can to slow the spread! Just as routine dental care is essential to your overall health and wellness... We believe routine chiropracitc care is essential to your overall health and wellness! But... this is not the time for "routine"... This is a time to let go of routine, redefine "essential" and give everybody the best possible chance to stay healthy. Significantly limiting our patient care during this time means encouraging people to stay home. We believe you should stay home unless your work or errands are critical or allow for a safe distance away from others. We have some great ideas below for how to beat the stir-crazy-blues! Two weeks feels like a good amount of time... this will allow testing to be rolled out in a way that will help us catch, and isolate cases quickly. The supply chain will have a chance to restock on basic needs such as protective gear and sanitizer. If we closed things down early enough, we may be able to keep cases at a manageable level for our hospital and medical systems. We want to be proactive rather than reactive! So... what are we doing until March 31?
Supplements to Help you Stay HealthyThis is a new virus and not much is known on the specific things that will help you stay healthy. However, based on how our bodies respond with other respiratory illnesses, we can draw some good conclusions on basics to help our body fight off viruses and other illnesses. Dr. Matt and his family include the following supplements in their daily routines: In addition, Dr. Matt and his family have added the following supplements during this outbreak to provide additional immune support:
Social Distancing to Stay HealthyWe agree with the experts! Keeping your circle of contact as minimal as possible will help us get through this outbreak. Send one person at a time to the store. Do not attend social gatherings, no matter how small. Be around other people only for essential needs. This helps keep everyone, including essential workers safe! Who are you helping by socially distancing? All essential workers! This includes our front line medical teams in hospitals and clinics, retail workers keeping grocery stores open, truck drivers transporting goods, etc. Those at high risk! This includes anyone aged 60+, those with underlying health conditions such as asthma, diabetes, and heart conditions. Those that will just be unlucky! YES! There are certainly a number of cases in otherwise healthy young adults turning critical. Those lives matter, too. Ideas to Stay Busy
Thank you for supporting our practice and our family with this difficult decision. We can't wait to take care of you again!Sincerely, Dr. Matt and the McCann Family Chiropractic Team
