Many of you have cooked with turmeric before. It is a spice that turns your food a gorgeous shade of yellow! It is a staple in Indian food and curries. You might not have known that this spice also contains a powerful anti-inflammatory agent.
“Curcumin seems to target specific molecules or pathways that control the cell cycle. It also blocks inflammatory cytokines and enzymes, including cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2)… a 2021 review of 15 randomized controlled trials found curcumin relieved OA pain and stiffness as well or better than nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen and celecoxib – minus potentially serious side effects.“1 1:Quote was extracted from this article: https://www.arthritis.org/health-wellness/healthy-living/nutrition/anti-inflammatory/turmeric-wont-help-arthritis Prolonged NSAID, most common, ibuprofen, use will cause kidney disease. Another common pain reliever, Tylenol, is known to cause liver damage with prolonged use. Curcumin, taken in normal doses, does not have these nasty side effects. It is important to note that just like with ibuprofen, a common contra-indication to taking curcumin, is taking any blood thinners. In addition, if you take curcumin in very large doses, over an extended period of time, it may cause kidney stones (though not kidney disease). Comments are closed.
