After a car accident or other sudden impact injury, the symptoms of whiplash might appear immediately, or they may develop in the days or weeks following the trauma. Understanding the symptoms and chiropractic treatment options available will help you to recover quickly and completely. Taking a “wait and see” approach to the early signs of whiplash might allow your neck and spine to remain out of alignment, causing more pain and damage to surrounding muscles and tissues. Delaying treatment may also put insurance compensation at risk. If you have the symptoms, it might be time to find a chiropractor with experience in accident recovery to evaluate your injuries and recommend a treatment plan. What Is Whiplash? Whiplash is more than a strained neck. In the most common scenario, a rear-impact car accident causes high-speed forced movement of the head forward and a resulting rebound backward.1 The force applied by the sudden whipping motion damages the tissues of the neck and shocks the nervous system. Severe whiplash might also cause head injury or damage to other joints and muscles. What Are the Symptoms of Whiplash? While severe neck pain is typical of the injury, the symptoms of whiplash cover a wide range of physical and neurological effects, including:
Chiropractic Treatment for Whiplash Chiropractic therapy is one of the most effective ways to heal from an accident. Chiropractors have a wide range of techniques to bring the neck and spine back to proper function while reducing pain during the healing process.

Thanks for helping me understand that a chiropractor will be able to make your recovery faster. Like you said, they will be treating your muscles and nerve damage that you have acquired during the incident. I will keep this in mind if ever I get into an accident in the future. I just needed to know about these things because I am a new driver since I just passed a month ago with my driving lesson. This will help me have an idea of what to do when I am in this kind of situation.

With such a long period of time after an injury, the healing process can take extra time, but it doesn't mean you will be permanently left in chronic pain. 13 years of stress on top of an injury will definitely have an impact, but improvements can most certainly be made! Three years is the limit for auto injury claims - so, this will need to be handled through health insurance or self pay. Please feel free to call our office with further questions, even if you are not in the area we may be able to help point you to someone who could help. Thank you for your comment!

One of my coworkers recently got into car accident, so I've been a bit worried about her. It's great that a chiropractor may be able to help her but her spine and neck back into alignment. What tips do you have for choosing a great chiropractor?

I had no idea that whiplash can potentially cause severe joint and muscle damage. My friend was recently rear-ended in a car accident and her neck has been extremely sore ever since. I'm sure she'd really benefit from finding a chiropractor that specializes in treating neck pain so she can get the pain relief she needs before the pain becomes more serious. Thank you.

I was in a car accident a few weeks ago that caused a lot of whiplash in my neck and upper back and I was hoping the pain would be gone by now, but it isn't. I am thinking about seeing a chiropractor and I am glad that I found this article because I did not realize they can help in so many different ways. You make a great point that they will be able to provide a neck adjustment that will help me to restore the mobility and range of motion for my neck. Also, it is great to know that they will give me techniques and stretches that I can do at home to increase the rate of my recovery.

My brother was recently involved in a car accident so thanks for sharing this. I like your point about how a chiropractor can help with things like whiplash. I might suggest he look into this because the pain in his neck is still there even after a week.

I thought it was interesting that chiropractic therapy could be the best way to recover from whiplash or an accident in general. My friend was in an accident a few weeks ago and is experiencing a few of these symptoms, but doesn't know what to do about combating the pain. I think that it might be best for her to try this out, especially after learning how having your neck and spine out of alignment can affect your surrounding muscles.

I'm glad that you mentioned that it is the most effective way to heal from a car accident. My brother got into a bad car accident a couple of weeks ago and has been complaining about a sharp pain in his back ever since. I'll make sure to pass this information along to him so he can look into seeing a chiropractor to help his back pain!

I had no idea that by having your spine adjusted, you can treat various sources of your pain after an accident! I have a colleague who unfortunately got involved in one, and I want to help him recover immediately. I'll go ahead and suggest this to him so he could visit a chiropractor for treatment.
