Blog post by Mavi Warren, Chirorpactic Assistant at McCann Family Chiropractic

After the year we survived and now through the year we thrived.

What a ride. I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling a sense of urgency in my life these days.

I feel a need to put what matters most in my life first.

I feel a growing desire to make my life matter.
Each moment and each day.

As we enter this next year, I want to fill it with treasured moments, things that are priceless in my eyes, and good and genuine people! With this growing need it leads me to make a strong decision… nay a resolution.

But what is a resolution?

Webster’s states that a New Year’s Resolution is a promise to do something differently in the New Year.

I like that definition.

But can I challenge you… can I challenge us all to go one step further?
Can I challenge us to be better, to choose better for ourselves?
The premise I was raised on is, "You have a choice" good, better, or best!
That was my choice.

As a child I hated these words. I hated the idea that whatever I was currently choosing to do was not even on the board with my mother’s, "good, better, best."

Now as an adult I can see the freedom in making a good decision, in being given the opportunity to change my decision to something that could enrich my life, rather than just be. To make a good choice, a better choice, or the best choice for myself in that situation...

So, with that, I would like to pass on my knowledge which was passed down to me from a long line of wise women.

Let’s step into this New Year making choices rather than resolutions.
Making a resolution is stated as a firm decision to do or not to do something.

That sounds good but what if my resolution starts out as one thing and my life takes a turn by January 25th!? Then what? My spirits fall and I am inevitably discouraged.

This one little shift could derail my year. So then, what if I went into my New Year with choices!
What if I decided to make a good, better, or best choice for me and my family in the moment?
Would I feel more in control over my New Year... over my hopes and plans for the coming year?
Would I feel freedom to make changes rather than discouraged by the roadblock that seems insurmountable?

Well, I sure hope so!

So, with all that here are some fantastic choices to make this year.
  • Make more time for yourself, you can’t pour out what you don’t have.
  • Get more quality sleep. Sleep heals the body and the mind.
  • Find a physical activity that you enjoy, try something new. (Smash ball anyone!?)
  • Eat more whole foods, and with that, cook more at home.
  • Spend more time outdoors, take the pooch for a walk or the baby for a stroll.
All in all, fill your life with love and laughter ~
That is the best choice anyone can make for themselves!
