Welcome to the great Pacific Northwest!

Well known for its mild climate and seemingly endless rainy days but with summer just within grasp, it’s one of the most beautiful outdoor wonderlands in the United States. Here, we are lucky enough to have some of the most beautiful landscapes and destinations right in our back yard! Whether you enjoy hiking or camping or great city views, we have it all. With breathtaking geological treasures, four mountain ranges, several active volcanos, the Columbia River, and even temperate rainforests… let’s get outside!

One of my first favorites is the river camping and hiking at the Mount Baker summit trail head, which is great for day hiking and backpacking. It’s a first come first serve/ pack only what you can carry type camping. The glacier water is beautiful and it’s a great place to explore with the kids and meet fellow fun seekers. The Mount Baker climb is a challenging climb with trails typically open from late June through October and take eleven+ hours to complete.
Maybe you have a pup that likes to hike too? There are plenty of trails in Washington that allow and even encourage bringing your furry friend along. However, there are many that do not allow pets so make sure you check the area first. Also, it’s always important to follow common dog etiquette when hiking. Mainly are leash laws, packing out your dog waste and honoring the posted dog rules and regulations.

Washington also has many kids’ friendly hikes that are great for the whole family. My kids love going out on trails and reading the plaques along the way and looking for birds and animals.

For those who want a hotter dry climate you can head east and into the desert ranches that make up the eastern part of Washington. It’s a great place for all types of off-road vehicles and even horseback riding. Just over the Mountains the dry camping in Fish Lake connects to logging roads where wheelers and Side x Sides rule the road.

Further East you will find places like Vantage where the hilly trails and western, rustic camping are a must. If off roading is not your thing, then the hiking and Morale mushroom picking in the upper country might suit you! At over sixty dollars a pound at most grocery stores, why not go scavenging and find your own?
Whatever your adventure language is the great outdoors in Washington is calling!!
